Pediatric Fertility Preservation

Every year, approximately 10,000 Canadian children live with cancer and up to 1,500 more are diagnosed. September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Atlantic Fertility is taking the opportunity to raise awareness and spread hope for the future for those facing a cancer diagnosis.

Atlantic Fertility offers pediatric fertility preservation support in the form of sperm and egg freezing (cryopreservation) for patients who are about to undergo chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Earlier this year, we also introduced Ovarian Tissue Cryopreservation for pediatric patients of the IWK and will be implementing testicular tissue cryopreservation in the near future.  Atlantic Fertility is one of the first fertility clinics in Canada to introduce fertility preservation for pediatric patients.

Atlantic Fertility is proud to play a part in providing childhood cancer survivors the support and resources they need to pursue their goals and to live life to the fullest.

Dr. Megan Dufton was interviewed by CBC and Dr. Mike Ripley was interviewed by the Chronicle Herald about this topic during National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
